BlackBerry has not released any major smartphone since 2013. According to the company, Passport is made for business users.

So far BlackBerry has confirmed only one carrier, AT&T, which will carry the smartphone in America. But if BlackBerry wants the majority of people to use Passport smartphone it will have to launch the smart phone via all four major carries.

BlackBerry has not said anything about the price and availability of its new Passport smartphone. But BlackBerry’s new Passport smartphone is expected to cost you $249 and $599, on contract and off-contract respectively. The smart phone can also be bought from BlackBerry’s online stores in Canada, France, Germany and UK. According to BlackBerry, Passport smartphone will be made available in thirty countries before the end of this year.

According to a report of a search firm,International Data Corporation, BlackBerry has less than one percent market share in smart phone industry. It is really unbelievable as BlackBerry has been a dominant smartphone selling company only a few years back. It looks like Passport smartphone is the company’s attempt to regain its lost position in smart phone market. Passport smartphone will appeal to 7 to 8 percent of the smartphone market, says BlackBerry.
